The Challenge
As a secondary school maths teacher, I’ve spent years trying to help pupils who arrive without the basic foundations they need, particularly multiplication and division facts. It’s heartbreaking to see students struggle simply because they didn’t have the right tools at the right time.
Why Fables World
We’ve been using Fables World for a few years now, and I can honestly say it’s been amazing for pupils who normally struggle with maths. The techniques are completely different from anything we’ve used before, fun, memorable, and actually designed to stick. What I love most is how well they work for the pupils who usually get left behind by traditional methods. The memory hooks in the stories make the facts come alive, and suddenly, students who used to dread maths are answering with confidence.
Last year, we also started using the Fables World method for telling the time, as so many pupils arrive unable to read an analogue clock which is essential for timekeeping and answering questions in exams. I’ll admit, I was a bit sceptical at first, but when I asked pupils if it had helped, they all said it made a huge difference.
“With Fables World, they’re engaged, they feel clever, and they’re actually making progress.”
What impact has Fables World had on your students’ confidence?
What really stands out to me is how much of a difference this has made for our pupils with SEN or maths anxiety. These are the kids who often feel defeated before they even start. But with Fables World, they’re engaged, they feel clever, and they’re actually making progress. I honestly wish more primary schools had access to these techniques.
